Security in Lamu has been heightened with deployment of over 700 security officers in various parts of the county.
According to the new County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri, the additional deployment of security officers is expected to strengthen security in the whole county and to ensure security of the citizens in the region is guaranteed.
The security personnel include police officers from regular police, General Service Unit (GSU) and the Rapid deployment Unit (RDU).
Other officers taking part in beefing up the Lamu security are the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers.
The new County Commissioner promised heightened security in all corners of Lamu to ensure all residents as well as visitors who will be coming for the Easter holidays will be assured of their security.
Security officers has also been deployed in Al-Shabaab affected villages including Basuba, Milimani, Mangai, Mararani, Kiangwe, Kiunga and Ishakani in Lamu East while others are Pandanguo, Witu, Kibaoni, Mpeketoni and Kaisari in Lamu West.
