Dozens of individuals with terrorist links have been arrested in a security operation in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu. The security sweep was in relations to recent al Shabaab attacks on the seaside city.
At least 50 people were arrested during the extensive overnight house-to-house search operations carried out in parts of Yaqshiiid, Wardhigley and Helima districts. The Somali troops were acting on intelligence that suggested that the Al Shabaab militants were hiding close to the city and were planning a string of assignations and attacks within the capital and its environs.
The security forces in Somalia have in the recent months increased surveillance and security checks to avert the isolated attacks orchestrated by the al Shabaab primarily targeted at security agents.
