An operation named “Operation Sweeping Torrent” to support legitimacy in Yemen, led by Saudi Arabia with support from the Arab Coalition, began on Tuesday to cleanse pockets and strongholds of Al-Qaeda members from Al-Muhafad and Wadi Hamara districts, the last terrorist stronghold in Abyan Governorate.
A well prepared military plan was carried out by the Security Belt Forces, including raids on terrorist elements, to drive Al-Qaeda from Al-Muhfad Directorate, the largest remaining stronghold of the organization.
Abu Mohsen Barabreen, an Al Qaeda leader, was killed in the operation while he was fighting with the Security Belt Forces. Two other important figures on the wanted list were captured.
With help from the Arab Coalition, the Security Belt Forces were able raid a number of Al-Qaeda dens in both Muhafad and Wadi Hamara. The militants suffered heavy losses of equipment and lives.
The people of Abyan Governorate extend thanks and appreciation to the Arab Coalition forces, especially Saudi Arabia and the UAE for providing all needed support in the battle against the remaining terrorist elements.
