The Multi-Agency Taskforce operational in Kenya’s Boni enclave has released a statement that highlights the progress and security situation in the area. The statement insists that relative calm has been restored which has led to the reopening of schools and resumption of socio-economic activities in the enclave.
The task force has deployed additional officers in the area ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr celebration coming up over the weekend especially in Witu and Mpeketoni areas in Lamu county. The reinforcements were done following intelligence that reported sightings of suspicious militia elements in the dense Boni Forest.
Caution and vigilance have been advised to the members of public and cooperation with the security forces deployed in the area flushing al Shabaab militants suspected to have crossed from Somalia with the intention of attacking positions in Boni enclave.
The Multi-Agency Taskforce has been active in the area and has recorded tremendous success in averting attacks and dismantling camps established by al Shabaab combatants both in Boni and in coordination with officers in the Lacta belt. The increased deployment has been welcomed seeing as al Shabaab had vowed increased attacks during the holy month.
