NISA officers seized the car with explosive devices (IEDs) after conducting an operation in Mogadishu’s main market, Bakara.
According to a NISA official, the officers had prior intelligence that a vehicle laden with explosives was planning to carry out an attack targeting the market.
The officers managed to intercept the abandoned vehicle and also diffused the bomb fitted thereby preempting the would-be attack successfully.
Al-Shabaab terrorists using IEDs fitted in vehicles have been targeting African Union Mission in Somalia, government bases and social gathering places, mainly hotels, in Mogadishu.
