2nd January 2016, latest military reports from Mogadishu reveal that Somali’s National Intelligence and security agency (NISA) managed to foil an imminent terrorist attack targeted on African Union troops’ base in Somali capital, Mogadishu.
Briefing the media, the Director General of NISA Gen. Abdirahman Mohamed Turyare said NISA with support from AMISOM forces thwarted an attack planned for Halane military base.
Halane is a key target for the Al Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab combatants as it houses African Union Mission In Somalia (AMISOM).
Reports indicate that the fighters from the Somali based jihadist group fired several mortar rounds on Jazeera military base located to the southern outskirts of Mogadishu.
AMISOM soldiers manning the base immediately responded. The militant overpowered by NISA and AMISOM joint aggression retreated.
Harakat al Shabaab al Mujahideen movement conducts attacks in Somalia with an intention to topple the international backed government and install strict Islamic sharia law.
