Monday 16th May 2016, Nigerian army said it had arrested militants responsible for a wave of attacks on pipelines in the troubled Delta region.
The arrested militants are believed to be part of Niger Delta Avengers, a movement blamed for assaults on oil infrastructure.
The pipeline attacks have seen Nigeria oil output suffer from 2.2 million to 1.65 million barrels a day since the beginning of 2016.
The Avengers movement last week has been threatening oils firms to leave the swampy southern region before the end of the month.
“This is to confirm the arrest of some suspected members of Niger Delta Avengers in connection with attacks on Chevron oil facilities,” army spokesman Rabe Abubakar said though he did not disclose the number of the apprehended militants.
Nigeria has moved in army reinforcements to hunt the militants to prevent any further pipeline attacks.
