The United States has handed over a second batch of military equipment to Niger to be used to strengthen the capability of the G5 Sahel Joint Force that fights jihadists in the region. The donation comes as Niger and her neighbors struggle with insurgents mainly allied to ISIS as well as al Qaeda.
The equipment, part of a $21 million donation, includes 13 Mamba armored personnel carriers, 86 radio systems, and four Armory Containers. The donation is expected to revamp counterterrorism operations and keeping Niger’s borders and citizens safe.
The first tranche of equipment was handed over in the capital Niamey on 6 June. It included transport, fuel, and water trucks; GPS-enabled navigation systems; fuel containers; military tents and individual soldier equipment.
