In the past few days, increased Al-Shabaab activity continue to be reported from across regions of Somalia. Increased activities have been recorded in the capital Mogadishu and localities of central and southern Somalia.
Joint counterterrorism operations in the past few days have in turn seen nearly a dozen Al-Shabaab fighters being killed especially in central Somalia. At least eight Al-Shabaab fighters following clashes with the group in in Galgaduud region in central Somalia.
According to military sources and referenced by local open sources, joint counterterrorism operations targeted Al-Shabaab hideouts on the outskirts of Dhusamareb town and inflicted casualties on them.
The planned attack comes barely three days after a deadly clash between Somali National Army and Al-Shabaab militants in Lower Shabelle. Al-Shabaab launched a twin suicide bombing in Awdheegle and Barire SNA forward operating bases in Lower Shabelle that resulted in tens of deaths.
The Al-Qaeda affiliate Al-Shabaab has stepped up attacks targeting civilians and security outposts in recent weeks amid an ongoing impasse between the Federal Government and the Federal Member States over the much-delayed elections.
