March 24, 2016: National Intelligence Agency forces of the Galmudug State have detained at least 30 al Shabaab suspects following an intelligence-prompted raid in a house in the central town of Galkayo on Wednesday –March 23rd.
The arrested people are members of an al Shabaab company that is fleeing fighting and retreating from the coastal village of Gara’ad in Mudug region. The arrested youths are among the militants that attempted a seaborne-backed recapture in Puntland state but were repelled and surrounded by the government forces.
This comes a few days after Kenya tightened its border and national security following intelligence reports that indicate desperate and cornered al Shabaab militants fleeing airstrikes-prone regions and Somalia and seeking safe haven.
