Sixteen Muslim clerics believed to be linked to Somalia’s Al-Shabaab militant group were arrested on Thursday in a mosque in Marsabit County.
Confirming the incident, Marsabit OCPD Mark Wanjala said the suspects were arrested in Karare in Marsabit.

The suspects arrived in Karare three days ago and were strange to the residents who decided to inform the police.
The strange Muslim clerics, who will be handed over to the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit in Nairobi, are said to be from Eastleigh in Nairobi, Marsabit, Sololo, Moyale and Isiolo.
The arrest comes amid police intensified crackdown on Al-Shabaab suspects countrywide since the al Shabaab attack on a Kenyan university in Garissa and the aftermath threats that were issued by the militant group.
