
UPDF Commander-in-Chief and President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni said that he will set up a specialized, trained armed force to secure all mountains in Uganda.
The commander in chief made the revelation at Kyanjuki Village in Kasese District at the foot of Mt Rwenzori when he visited the UPDF unit that will be tasked with the responsibility of securing the country’s mountains.
The mountain warfare is one of the most dangerous types of combat involving surviving under the extreme weather and dangerous terrain.
President Museveni noted there is a need to secure the country’s mountainous areas to promote the Tourism.
The new unit is being trained by French Alpine troops. President Museveni thanked the French government for their support saying the mountain warfare force will come in handy in securing Ugandan mountains, meaning security of the neighbouring communities besides promoting tourism.
