The Somali parliament has unanimously approved the appointment of the country’s new Prime minister, Mohamed Hussein Roble following a special session. The new PM was appointed following a vote of no confidence against former PM Hassan Ali Khaire.
The vote was cast when 215 lawmakers in attendance during the session endorsed the Prime Minister. The new premier is scheduled to form a cabinet in the next coming weeks which will be submitted to the parliament for approval again.
Also, the PM is expected to present the country’s next plan for the new election model, economic reforms, and security which is geared at revitalizing the country’s government. The PM has received a vote of confidence from several leaders including Jubbaland leader, Ahmed Mohamed Madobe who endorsed him in Mogadishu.
The challenge ahead of Roble is the upcoming elections as well as the security of the Horn of Africa nation that has been plagued by jihadists allied to both ISIS and Al Qaeda. He is expected to choose a cabinet that will facilitate the implementation of several resolutions as well as guide the country through the transition process.
