Malaysia has warned of Islamic State militant group threat after its supporters pledged to revenge for arrests made on it fighters.
Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak argued terrorism, violent extremism are real threats facing the country with a growing number joining the extremist groups.
Islamic State through their propaganda channels released a video calling of it supporters to conduct attacks in Malaysia revenge for the arrests of a growing number of its militants in Malaysia, prompting a further tightening of security in the Muslim-majority nation.
The IS video according to Malaysia police is believed to feature operatives from the militant group Katibah Nusantara.
Najib speaking at a conference on extremism said terrorism is a challenge that faces all countries all around the world, it’s a real threat that Malaysia government is taking seriously.
According to Malaysia police reports, on Sunday 24th January 2016, they had arrested seven members of Islamic State linked cell planning to conduct attacks across the country.
The suspected militants were in possession of bullets, books on jihad, Islamic State flags and propaganda videos.
In the past few days Malaysia police arrested another suspected militant believed to have been planning a suicide attack in Kuala Lumpur.
The video that surfaced online warned Malaysia against the crackdown on IS supporters with analysis from Counter-terror unit indicating the jihadist group operations becoming more organized and thus scaling-up police operations ready to preempt any possible terror attack.
