Latest military reports from Somalia indicate that, the Al-Qaeda affiliate Al-Shabaab conducted another low-scale attack targeting Forward Operating Base (FOB) belong to Somali National Army in the outskirts of Marka town of Lower Shabelle region.
According to military-owned Radio SNA, A-Shabaab attacked their base from different directions prompting half an hour clashes between the sides. The fighting took place on Thursday afternoon. The militants were defeated with casualties from both sides being reported.
AMISOM has backed weak Somali army in an effort to liberate villages still under the control of Al-Shabaab in Lower Shabelle region of Somalia.
In recent months, joint operations have seen several villages including Sabiid, Bariire and Awdhegle in southern Somalia recaptured from the Islamist Al-Shabaab fighters.
The militant group still controls few towns and villages in remote areas of Lower Shabelle.
