Heavy fighting continues to be reported between Libyan forces and Islamic State militants (ISIS) over the control of Sirte city.
On Monday 1st August 2016, U.S. warplanes conducted first ever aerial assaults targeting Islamic State militants in Libya’s Sirte as requested by Libya-unity government.
U.S. and Libyan authorities estimate that hundreds of Islamic State fighters remain in Sirte considered their stronghold.
At least 350 of their fighters have been killed and more than 1,500 wounded in the allied forces campaign and supported by U.S airstrikes.
