The energy shortages experienced in Kenya will soon be a gone case once the Lake Turkana Wind Power Project is operational.
The ground breaking ceremony of the project is scheduled for Thursday, 2nd July 2015, with President Uhuru Kenyatta expected to officiate it.
The Lake Turkana Wind Power Project is expected to generate 300MW upon completion but the first 90MW are expected to be commissioned in September 2016 with the project expected to be complete by the following year.
The power purchase agreement between the Lake Turkana Wind Power Project and Kenya Power has been reached at 8.42 US cents per Kilowatt per hour.
The Lake Turkana Wind Power Project is a huge source of employment as it will incorporate 163 engineers both local and foreign as well as 630 local workers.
The commissioning comes a few weeks since a reliable cited that Google was in talks to invest in the power project that is projected to be the largest in Africa. The talks with Google to invest in the project have restored the image of the Kenyan energy industry and the potential it embeds encouraging private investors to invest in such like energy projects.
The Lake Turkana Wind Power Project will be built on a 40,000 acre land that will house 365 turbines in Turkana and will be able to produce power under a 20-year purchase agreement with Kenya Power.
The project is expected to ease the power shortages and rations that are experienced by the Kenya citizenry. The project is also part of the Kenyan government to provide power to all households in the republic preceded by the recent lowering of power installation cost.
