Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta has joined other world leaders in condemning Tuesday’s terrorist attack in Brussels.
Brussels airport and a rush hour metro train in the Belgian capital came under attack with explosions leaving at least 30 people killed and scores injured.
In a statement Tuesday evening, President Kenyatta termed the Brussels attack as an ‘attack on democracy’ the open society and the values that Kenya holds dear.
"Kenya joins and mourns with the people and government of Belgium following the heinous terrorist attacks today. Kenya also stands in solidarity with the European Union, noting that its major institutions are hosted in Brussels," President said in his statement.
President Kenyatta further urged on world nations and leaders to stand with Brussels in fighting the common enemy to protect democracy and human liberty from its extremist.
Jan Jambon the Belgium's Interior Minister on Monday had said the country was on high alert for a revenge attack following the arrest of French citizen Salah Abdeslam who was captured by Belgian police linked to the Paris attacks.
Islamic State claimed responsibility for Brussels attacks. Security forces have launched manhunt for one attacker who survived. The other perpetrators died in the explosion (were suicide bombers).
