AMISOM SUMMIT, DJIBOUTI 28th February 2016
Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta during his address to Heads of State and Government contributing troops and police in Somalia called on other African countries to contribute more troops to bolster war against Al-Shabaab.
President Kenyatta said additional troops will come a long way in bolstering the war on Al-Shabaab that is gaining momentum.
The President pointed the failure to deploy more AMISOM troops in Gedo region which he described as the perfect ground for Al-Shabaab terrorists to launch attacks in Somalia and in Kenya citing its proximity.
President Kenyatta it is of great concern the absence of AMISOM in the Gedo region which now has become a safe haven for the Al Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab to launch attacks against our troops and people residing along common Kenya-Somali border.
AMISOM currently comprises of a strong force of 22,000 soldiers from Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Djibouti and Ethiopia.
AMISOM Police Contributing Countries include Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Uganda.
