Kenya’s Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet on Friday 26th February 2016 warned of re-emergence of criminal gangs ahead of 2017 general elections.
According to IG Boinnet, the scheme is plotted by some individuals with intention of unleashing fear and chaos during electioneering period.
IG Boinnet has warned that outlawed criminal gangs such as Sungu Sungu, Mungiki, Al-Shabaab and the secessionist group, Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) remains proscribed and listed as organized criminal gang operating in Kenya.
The Inspector General of Police reiterated that any moves by such groups will be met by the full force of the law and the scheme/plot will not be allowed to thrive.
The police chief called on Kenyan citizenry to refrain from being dragged in criminal activities and to exercise tolerance.
Kenya’s security agents in collaboration with the government remains committed to root out criminal group’s illicit activities and warned any public officer found complicit with these individuals that they will be dealt according to the law.
