Kenyan Airstrike Kills 56 Harakat al- Shabaab al-Mujahideen Movement Combatants in Southern Somalia

kenya-air-force

Event Summary

Thursday 16th 2015; Kenya Defense Forces Air-force deployed its F-5 Tiger jet fighter/bombers to conduct surgical airstrikes on target Juungal located between Bardhere and Buur Hajje in Gedo region of Somalia.

The airstrikes were purposed to eliminate over 100 combatants of the Harakat al- Shabaab al-Mujahideen Movement Al-Qaeda’s branch in Somalia who were digging in the area after a US drone airstrike killed 2 of their top senior commanders Ismail Jabhadi and Jamaa Adhere.

56 Enemy combatants were killed. The airstrike destroyed enemy resources and battle assets further degrading their capability to conduct aggression against civilians.

Analysis

The Kenya Army (Kenya Defense Forces) has made significant gains against the Harakat al- Shabaab al-Mujahideen Movement Al-Qaeda’s branch in Somalia in recent past.

KDF has significantly degraded the capability of the terror outfit to conduct guerrilla activities outside the enclave of Bardheere and has eliminated key tactical teams and their assets in the Gedo and Juba.

Kenya Army has opted the preemptive strategy to deter Harakat al- Shabaab al-Mujahideen Movement combatants from launching attacks against its infantry platoons serving under UN-AMISOM that are deployed strategically in both regions/theater (Gedo & Lower Juba).

The terror outfit is seen to suffer setbacks in these highly valuable regions. Al-Shabaab wants to capture and take control of the agricultural areas besides gain access to routes to the seaports or at-least the coastlines. Such access will outright allow them to replenish their supplies including arms, food, medicine, and most importantly restore exports and imports to raise much needed revenue.

Forecast

An outlook on future scenarios in theater depict a decline of the Harakat al- Shabaab al-Mujahideen Movement Al-Qaeda’s branch in Somalia in Gedo and Juba regions.

However, there are high chances of the militants using businessmen to achieve finance goals.

While the pressure by the Kenya Defense Forces may significantly weaken operability of any asset the terror outfit may posses or acquire, a build up of their operatives will be observed in areas where AMISOM presence is low.

The militants will also increase their recruitment drive to fill gaps left by those killed in combat besides replenishing their rank and fold.

The day we wage war against Terror group Alshabab however small thy seam to be they’ll retaliate… jst like Israel n Palestine,Saudi and Yemen.. lets not cause division between us, calling names and targeting one ethnic group as terrorists… Alshabab consists of my tribes and ethnic groups… lets fight for peace as one nation n leave everything to the government… thnks
