- Credible intelligence received on 18/11/2018 at around 2315hrs indicate that a small Al-Shabaab group attempted to stage an attack at AP’s camp, Ijara.
- The militants were heavily armed with machine guns, assault rifles, and RPG’s.
- The militants were targeting a Police camp and Kenya patrol teams in the general area.
- They were also targeting communication masts to cut off communication.
Kenya security forces have recovered a body of an Al-Shabaab fighter following a botched attack on an AP camp in Ijara.
Information received indicate that a group of Al-Shabaab militants, heavily armed with PKM, AK47 rifles, and an RPG attempted to breach in the camp, but joint security forces comprising of AP and Rural Border Patrol Unit (RPBU) who had prior intelligence of a possible attack, engaged them in a gun fight, forcing them to retreat into a nearby thicket.
A patrol team is still in pursuit, tracing blood stained tracks towards Ijara centre. So far, one body of an Islamist Al-Shabaab terrorist, has been recovered in a thicket, near the Kenya-Somalia border.
The source indicates that, they were around 20 Al-Shabaab operatives and when overwhelmed escaped in different direction towards Ijara town probably to seek medication. Number of militant casualties expected to be higher.
This might be the same group that terrorized passersby in Rugha last week, destroyed communication masts to paralyze communication, an indicator they were preparing for another attack.
There have been several attempts by the Somali Terror Group Shabaab Mujahideen to breach AP’s camp in Kutulo, Mararani Rural Border Patrol Unit (RPBU) Camp in Lamu County, lower north eastern Kenya in October.
The elite patrol units have successfully repelled these attacks forcing the terror militants to retreat into the dense forest.
Al-Shabaab has attempted to overrun Mararani Rural Border Patrol Unit (RPBU) Camp three times in September 2018.
Kenya security agencies called to be on alert as there are indicators that Shabaab Mujahideen might be planning to stage more attacks in the coming festive season especially in Lamu and Garissa counties.
Masalani, Sangailu, Ijara and Handaro are all within the Linda Boni Operation zone.
The multi-agency operation seeks to flush out Al-Shabaab militants from Boni Forest.
