Four (4) Shabaab militants on April 13, 2020 were killed in a gun battle by Kenyan police reservists in Wajir in the country’s northeastern prefecture.
According to Wajir County security authorities, police reservists during their routine patrol came into contact with Shabaab militants and gun fight ensued. The police managed to kill four in the gun battle that happened at Kakabey between Qarsa and Ausmudule in Wajir County. Unfortunately, two police reservists were injured.
The incident happened at Monday 10.00 am local time. The area of encounter is about eight kilometers from the Kenya-Somalia border.
The last two months have seen a drop in terror attacks in the frontier regions of Kenya. The last terror event in Wajir happened in January 2020 after an unknown number of Somalia ragtag militant group attacked a passenger bus in Khorof Kharar, injuring two people.
Local Shabaab cell in collaboration with local sympathisers have been blamed for the attacks in the region which have always targeted security personnel and civil servants mostly non-local teachers.
