A Combined joint task force of Rapid Response team, Administration Police from El-Wak, Kenya Police and other special units from the police service and Anti Terrorism police (ATPU) have destroyed and killed at least 4 members of Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab terror cell that was planning to conduct an attack against specific high value targets including the El-Wak Police camps
4 Members of the terror cell were shot dead, weapons and ammunition recovered in one of the most successful intelligence led operation.
The terrorists were planning to fire rocket propelled grenades on the camps then steal ammunition, weapons, and police vehicles then make away with them into Somalia.
The Kenya Police and the Administration Police officers in the area deployed early and have remained ready (and are still on standby) to ensure they preempt the threat posed by the Somali based terrorists.
The team tracked the terrorists to Kobolo area near Falama where they engaged the group of 20 in a fierce exchange of fire. Police overpowered the militants who had machine guns and rocket propelled grenade launchers.
The militants fled after the police overpowered them. Police recovered 90 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 4 magazines for AK-47 rifles, 5 mobile phones, one pocket phone, Somali Army jungle jackets, 1000KES note, and 2 3-Liter capacity jerry cans.
This is a very successful result. Security agencies are working together. Sharing of intelligence and proactive police units helped preempt the threat.
The killing of the 4 militants is a blow to the militants. It sends a clear warning to the Al-Shabaab militants that the country is ready to defend its citizens from criminals and extremists.
