
Kenya police officers on Sunday arrested a suspected terror suspect in the border town of Garissa.
Security officers also recovered a firearm (pistol) loaded with 10 rounds of ammunitions.
Confirming the arrests, Northeastern regional coordinator Mohamud Saleh said the terror suspect was arrested in Bulakamor within Garissa town by officers as he trying to hide the weapon.
The arrests were made possible by members of public who spotted him, informed the local administrators who immediately called police to arrest him.
The assailant was detained in Garissa police station where he will undergo thorough interrogation.
Saleh thanked the members of the public for their continued collaboration with security agencies in NEP region to make sure it’s safe.
NEP region has in the past suffered attacks from the Somali based Islamist group, Al-Shabaab, but in the first quarter of 2016, the region has enjoyed resilience and beefed security mainly in Dadaab, Wajir, Garissa, and Mandera counties.
Kenyan coastal regional has also in the past suffered same fate as NEP but security currently is all high especially in Malindi, Lamu.
