
Kenya’s government through its embassy in Somalia announced plans to open consulates in different parts of the country.
According to Kenya’s ambassador to Somalia, Lucas Tumbo, the embassy will help the government keep track if its citizens living in Somalia.
During an interview at his Mogadishu office, Tumbo confirmed the embassy launched an exercise to register all Kenyans in Somalia. The ambassador added that the database now stands at 20,000 Kenyans with 3,500 working in formal sectors.
Starting July 2016, the embassy will open liaison offices with localities like Kismayu, Hergesa, Baidoa and Garowe given priority.
The additional offices will help in providing consular services to Kenyans living within those regions.
Ambassador Tumbo encouraged Kenyans too go to invest or work in Somalia since there are so many opportunities citing of improved security.

Kenya embassy in Somalia was operating from Nairobi until July 2015 when it was relocated to Mogadishu.
The embassy is hosted strategically within a camp in the vicinity of Aden Abdulle Airport in Mogadishu town for security reasons.
Kenya continues to be a key ally of Somalia as the country embarks on the path of economic and political stability.
