Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) under the mandate of AMISOM killed five (5) Al-Shabaab militants and subsequently foiled an attack on a Somali army base stationed in Bilis Qooqani.
Close to 20 Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab militants attacked the SNA base from three different directions at around 12:30am on Sunday, 17th May 2020.
The KDF dispatched a special platoon of soldiers to assist their Somali counterparts following a distress call. Five militants were killed, five AK47 rifles recovered and several rounds of ammunition also recovered.
Despite the Maritime dispute with Somalia, Kenya continues to work closely to support the weak Somali Security Forces to restore peace beside reduce the threat posed by Al-Shabaab in the region.
