The Kenya Defence Force listed riffle is the Heckler & Koch G3 riffle famously known as the G3 rifle. It is a 7.62 by 51 mm NATO rifle is very reliable seeing as it has been in service globally since 1959.
It is a preferred weapon because it is a light weapon weighing only between 4.1 kg and 4.7 kg and whose length is only 102.5 cm making it a very portable gun.
The HK G3 rifle is has quite a remarkable firing range and doubled up with the capability of the servicemen and women, makes it a very effective war weapon. Its operative firing range is 500 meters an equivalent of 0.5 km or 550 yards and depending on the sight adjustment of its range varies between 100 and 400 meters.
The rate of fire of any gun is measured in rounds per minute. This loosely translates to the number of projectiles (in the G3 case) bullets it can fire in a minute. The G3 rifle can fire 500-600 rounds per minute which is impressive despite its dependence on the user.
The G3 rifle has a 20-round detachable box which means that a soldier can be able to reload from the magazine pouches usually attached to the bullet proof vest.
The G3 riffle has been modified over time to meet specific needs of the servicemen improving its efficacy and making it a very popular and fundamental arm for any army to possess. Some of the common adjustments include fixing a bayonet for close-quarters combat.
Its popularity makes it preferred combat arm in many insurgencies like the Somali War and Ethiopian War in the East African Region. The KDF and other global military Outfit having the G3 levels the playing field with any enemy and at time even gives advantage over them with an adjusted model.
While it is not the only war rifle the Kenya Defence Force has in their armories it is a very crude and operational assault rifle. Additionally, it is the best 7.62 mm NATO riffle there is, it is very reliable, multipurpose, affordable and controllable assault rifle.
