Latest military reports indicate that KDF on Sunday told residents who live close to Boni forest and its environment to vacate the area within 48 in readiness to launch an onslaught against the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab combatants.
KDF plans to conduct massive bombardments aimed at wiping out the remaining element of Al-Shabaab combatants who conducts sporadic, surprise attacks on border areas of Lamu and Somalia.
The combatants are believed to hideouts in the vast Boni forest. Though Operation Linda Boni has seen dozens of Al-Shabaab’s Jaysh Ayman cells destroyed, the forest has not completely been pacified of the combatants.
The order to vacate Boni forest was delivered on Sunday by the head of Operation Linda Boni mission (Swahili for Operation Protect Boni) Joseph Kanyiri. He urged the herders, who are most likely to frequent the area, to stay away from the forest.
