Kenya authorities have extended the amnesty period in order for more Al-Shabaab recruits to denounce the terrorists’ group and surrender.
The authorities did not specify the period offered to recruits lured and radicalized into joining the Somalia based Al-Shabaab terrorist group.
Many youths who surrendered from the militant group some months ago have exhibited regrets into why they joined the Al Qaeda affiliated terrorist group in Somalia.
Corresponding notes from most of them indicate that they had joined the terror group after being promised financial support only to be duped after joining the terror camps.
Many also narrates how they were recruited without knowledge only being promised jobs overseas only to be misrouted to the terror camps in Somalia.
But one thing which has remained common to the Al-Shabaab returnees is how life in the terrorist group remained hell for them. Once in terror camps it was not possible for them to retreat back as they would be killed thus many continues to remain in the terror camps unwillingly.
Coast regional coordinator Nelson Marwa called on youths to hand themselves to the authorities promising the government will continue to rehabilitate them.
Marwa called on them to take the opportunity before its too late saying its impossible to fight the government and win. He promised them no action will be taken against them.
The amnesty and rehabilitation program was launched by the Kenya’s interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery in March 2015. Hundreds of Al-Shabaab returnees have benefitted from the offer.
