16 Militants were killed in a botched ambush on an army patrol convoy along the El-Wak-Busaar road.
A Patrol Unit Convoy of the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) AMISOM Contingent based in Gedo region of Somalia repulsed an ambush staged by militants belonging to the Al-Qaeda branch in Somalia, Harakat Al-Shabaab Mujahideen (HSM), killing 16 of the militants and wounding dozens others outside Busar town.
An army vehicle was decommissioned after it was hit by a landmine which was detonated by the militants to orchestrate the ambush. Intelligence reports show that a group of 40 heavily militants attempted to conduct an ambush using the roadside IED as a bait.
The mobile patrol unit was returning from a surveillance and reconnaissance mission outside Busar villages along the road to El-Wak.
The mine detonated destroying an armored tactical vehicle in the convoy. The militants opened fire from their positions targeting the army unit. Army snipers and machine gunners swiftly repulsed the ambush killing 4 militants. Initial damage assessment (BDA) confirms the vehicle was destroyed but there were no casualties.
