Kenya Air Force Peacekeeping Mission in Somalia

When Kenya boasts of an its all rounded security measures, the three arms of the national Defence Forces are the forces to reckon with. The Kenya Army, Kenya Navy and the Kenya Air Force all recognized in Article 241 of the 2010 Constitution of Kenya.

The three have a mandate to ensure that Kenya is peaceful, protecting her best interests while sacrificing themselves for Kenyan’s sake. Other times, they are called upon for other peacekeeping missions out of the country.

The Kenya Air Force (KAF) is the country’s aerial combat. Its headquarters is located at the Moi Air Base in Nairobi and its main airbase is located at the Laikipia Air Base in Nanyuki.

Formed on 1^st of June 1964, the journey through Kenya’s Air Force has quite evolved as the need and demand to protect Kenya’s airspace rises every minute.

Kenya has been facing terror attacks which the armed forces have adequately responded to in relation to the equipment which the country has. The three forces have been able to combat terrorism and to protect the nation from land, air space and even on its water bodies.

The recent operations in Somalia conducted by the Kenya Air Force launched airstrikes on several camps suspected to be Al Shabaab’s hide outs in Somalia.

The team, under special commands has so far been able to protect the country through its airspace. The Kenyan Air Force response has recently been heavily felt in Somalia following Al Shabaab’s attack on one of the universities in Kenya.

With Kenya’s Air Force ability to conduct airstrikes, defend from land and to conduct an air-to-air operation the troops are determined to crush forces aimed at attacking Kenya from her airspace.
