
Beles Qoqaani town and its resident had an extraordinary day on Thursday 22nd October 2015 after KDF Sector II troops serving under AMISOM banner engaged Beles Qoqaani Football Team in a rare friendly football match.
Football is a global sports with fun across the world and citing insecurity challenges in Somalia, it an activity which is coming up with aim of bringing communities of various clans together thus improving their lives.
As the match began at 1000hrs, it had drawn a huge crowd of local residents from all communities within and beyond Beles Qoqaani locality who came in numbers to supports their team as it played against AMISOM.
Though the match ended with a score of 2-0 in favor of KDF/AMISOM sector II team, the local team benefited from the match as AMISOM troops headed by their Officer Commanding Major S. M. Mtakai donated three soccer balls, a pair of goal post net and uniforms among other soccer kits.
The troops also took on other activities including clearing shrubs around the football pitch, constructing of goal posts and also helped the local team to mark the football pitch afresh.
Major Mtakai after the match ended had a chance to interact and address a meeting which was also graced by Beles Qoqaani administration, village elders and huge crowd of local residents.
Major Mtakai stressed the importance of local community’s participation in ensuring sustainable peace in the area and by extension the whole country by teaming up with security forces in terms of information or intelligence sharing.
To reduce crime rate within their region and in society at large; he insisted the importance of parents encouraging their children to utilize the facilities available such as the refurbished football pitch to play soccer.
The administration and local elders lauded the initiative from AMISOM peacekeepers requesting more such activities in order to build a close bond between locals and security forces and consequently be able to defeat Al Shabaab militants.
The Officer Commanding promised the locals that they will do every possible within AMISOM mandate to make sure Somalia is safe, secure, peaceful and a prosperous country.
