30 al Shabaab militants have been killed by Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and Jubbaland troops after a botched overrun of a military base. The fighting erupted in Bilis Qooqaani near Bilis Afmadow town, some 70km away from Somali-Kenyan border, following the surprise attack on coalition forces’ bases.
The al Shabaab attacked the base armed with RPGs and machine guns according to local witnesses but were met with heavy fire by the troops. Kenyan forces responded the attack with heavy artilleries, adding that the fighting between the coalition forces and Al Shabaab had lasted for hours.
KDF has proven to be a formidable contingent under the AMISOM banner and in the recent months have deterred several attacks mounted by the al Shabaab killing tens of terrorists especially in the southern part of Somalia.
