Thursday 25th February 2016, Kenyan fighter jets are reported to have conducted series of airstrikes targeting an Al-Shabaab operational base in TuloBarwaqo of Gedo region Somalia.
Latest military reports indicate that KDF which a contingent of AMISOM peacekeepers in Somalia conducted successful air raids on the Al-Shabaab base TuloBarwaqo village located about 20 kilometers from Garbaharey, the regional capital of Gedo.
TuloBarwaqo is a locality/village majorly controlled by Al-Shabaab militants.
Several Al-Shabaab militants are reportedly to have been killed in the air raids that completely destroyed the militant’s base.
Corresponding reports from local resident to local media outlets indicate that KDF fighter jets struck Al-Shabaab strongholds in Buurhano and Ara’asa areas that lie a few kilometers of TuloBarwaqo, close to Somalia-Kenya border.
Harakat al Shabaab al Mujahideen (HSM) continues to suffer huge losses, with several of their training and logistical bases destroyed, the military strength and capability of the jihadist outfit is slowly dwindling.
The group has reverted to propaganda through their pro-websites and media channel to woo fighters. Al-Shabaab terrorists continues to suffer severe blows after communications networks pull down their propaganda videos.
KDF contingent that is assigned to man sector 2 has been on the frontline on the war against the Al Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab with a strong-force of about 4,000.
Other AMISOM force contributing countries include Uganda (UPDF), Ethiopia (ENDF), Burundi, Djibouti and Sierra Leone.
