Jubbaland forces have repulsed an attack by the al Qaeda affiliated al Shabaab in Bar Sanguni area located on the outskirts of Kismayo. The forces fended off a would-be lethal attack by the militants during a security operation in the area.
The fighting started after Al-Shabaab attacked government troops and Jubbaland forces in a security operation in the area. According to locals, the Jubbaland forces easily overpowered the Islamists but not after a fierce gun battle that lasted for hours.
Bar Sanguni has been the stage of many an al Shabaab attacks with the militants attacking allied troops. al Shabaab has particularly shown active presence in central and southern Somalia where the militants operate camps and training bases for new recruits. While al Shabaab is yet to comment on the number of casualties, it is clear that the Jubbaland troops run out the terrorists from the area.
