Jubbaland forces have launched a large-scale security sweep in Hosingow locality in Lower Jubba region targeting Al-Shabaab fighters.
The military operation comes a day after Al-Shabaab attempted an attack on an AMISOM army base in the region.
Jubbaland forces commenced door-to-door searches at dawn on Monday in the area.
According to Hosingow chief, Abdi Mohamed Mohamud the forces operations are aimed at smoking out Al-Shabaab members who are known to blend in with people.
The operation is also meant to hunt down perpetrators who tried to attack AMISOM base in the area a day ago as well as militant group sympathizers in the area.
Mohamud noted that the security operation is normal but aimed at eradicating “anti-peace” groups as well as restoring peace and security around Hosingow town and its sorroundings.
