Joint troops drawn from Somali army and AMISOM’s Djiboutian troops successfully recaptured Luqa Jelow location, near Beledweyne town from the extremist Al-Shabaab following a security operation.
Military report from the area indicate that the joint operation also saw several abducted young people being freed from the militant group.
The military operations come at a time Al-Shabaab has spiked attacks against security forces in Middle Shabelle region of Somalia. In the past one week, Al-Shabaab has recorded at least four attacks in this region.
The new offensive comes a day after Al-Shabaab fighters shelled AMISOM base in Beledweyne town, Hiran region, manned by Djiboutian troops. The mortar shelling did not hit its target. Troops successfully repulsed the attacks with no casualties.
