Security agencies in Somalia including the NISA and AMISOM forces have in the recent past arrested militants belonging to Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahedeen, with a special focus on the country’s capital of Mogadishu where the militants have carried out attacks that specifically targeted Somali government officials.
According to Somali police authorities, there is clear indication that there are elements of Al Shabaab militants still hiding in some city estates of Mogadishu, a few days after they were forced out of their major hideouts in the Southern and Central parts of Somalia.
Intelligence pieces collected from the public added to the possibility that some Al-Shabaab militants had sneaked into the city and were residing in some estates in preparation for attacks.
The Al Shabaab militants on Monday attacked and injured a senior immigration official in a drive-by-shooting in Hodan district in Mogadishu which Al-Shabaab later claimed responsibility.
