The Japan Government on Wednesday 9th September donated 56 vehicles to the Somali Police Force as a boost for the current security campaign especially in the capital Mogadishu.
The vehicles are armored with wire mesh and are to be used for patrols, and response to distress calls not only in the capital but also in other major town is Somalia that the Police and the army have taken over from the AMISOM troops.
The handover ceremony was attended by the Japanese Government representative to Somalia, Tomohiro Tommatsu, Somali Minister for Security, Chief Commander of Somali Police Force; Mohamed Sheikh Hassan Hamud, African Union and United Nations officials.
Japan has been aiding the Somalia government in their efforts to restore the peace and security in the country. According to the Hassan Hamud, that was the first batch of donations to the police force with uniforms and other police equipment expected at a later date.
Somalia has received aid from different countries in the recent months to facilitate their war against Islamists Harakat al Shabaab al Mujahedeen ranging from, United States, China, Turkey Japan among others in a bid to rebuild the country creating sustainable amenities and development in Somalia.
