Islamic State (IS) extremists group on Monday 10th October 2016 confirmed the death of one of their senior leaders whom according to Pentagon was killed early in September in U.S. precision airstrikes near the northern Syrian terrorist stronghold of Raqqa.
IS through an online post eulogized death of Wa'il Adil Hasan Salman al-Fayad known by the U.S. military as "Dr. Wa'il."
Pentagon had earlier confirmed that Fayad was targeted and killed in air raids on September 7, near Raqqa an IS-held town.
Further details by the Pentagon and supported by video of the strike indicate that Fayad was struck while sitting on a motorcycle packed next to a house.
U.S. Military official described Fayad as prominent member of the Islamic State’s Senior Shura Council which is involved in the decision making for the terrorist group.
He was also linked to the production of propaganda videos showing torture and executions.
The Pentagon also said Fayad was a close associate of Abu Muhammad al-Adnani, a chief IS strategist killed in northern Syria by a U.S.-led coalition airstrike in late August.
