The Islamic States branch in Somalia, Abnah Ul Caliphaa has resumed its terrorist activities in the unstable Horn of African state, Somalia. The attacks are mainly terminal assassinations in public places in key cities in Somalia targeting government officials.
Abna Ul Caliphaa issued a statement through ISIS Central communication channels claiming it assassinated a senior Puntland Police Officer in Bassaso. The group claimed that its operatives conducted an attack targeting Ahmed Mohamed, a Senior Puntland Police officer. This is the 3rd attack in a row, signaling a steady rise of its activities.
The terror group suffered significant setbacks in May 2019 after precision airstrikes targeted its core leadership and small bases in Puntland. The group has been gradually building its presence and its strength in Somalia with an estimated 300 fighters based in Puntalnd and an unspecified number across Somalia.
