Following the joint task force and the joining of the US in the fight to recapture Tikrit from ISIS, they are conducting a lot of retaliatory attacks especially in Mosul.
Islamic State affiliates in Iraq’s Mosul Province attacked a police academy and took 5 personnel hostage and are keeping them in an unknown location.
In a separate incident the fighters moved some journalist that they have been holding captive to Raqa in Syria. This can be viewed as a sign of retreat by the ISIS in Iraq seeing as they have been driven out of Trikit and soon Mosul.
In the past months, ISIS has beheaded both local and foreign journalist and those still held captive are used in their propaganda videos and to write ISIS magazine among other press related activities.
Mosul, the second largest city, is next in the recapture from ISIS line after the Iraqi forces and US-led coalition captures and has control over Tikrit in the intensified fight against the extremist group.
