Afghan Special Forces have killed a senior militant leader who was in charge of Daesh (ISIS) activities in northern Afghanistan and Central Asia. The killed commander has since been identified as Mufti Uzbek by Afghan officials.
Uzbek was killed during an operation in the village of Dahana-e-Ghori, Baghlan Province in the northeast of Afghanistan. Mufti Uzbek was in charge of ISIS activities in northern parts of Afghanistan and was mainly involved in planning and organizing terrorist attacks. He was also in charge of equipping and financing the terror group in Central Asia.
Conflict-ridden Afghanistan has been dealing with long-term instability caused by fighting between government troops and Taliban militants, as well as groups affiliated with al-Qaeda, Daesh and other insurgents.
