The Islamic States Terror group branch in Somalia published a video that shows its members conducting an attacking against an elderly man purported to be a police officer in the general vicinity of Afgoye, a corridor town outside the capital Mogadishu.
The video, though shot using a poor quality camera, most probably a handheld device (precisely a cheap phone traded for a few dollars at the flea market of Barkaara) is meant to assert the presence of a small cell of the terror group.
In the video, an ISIS gunman killed a 60 year old man who OSINT and HUMINT sources confirm as a member of the prisons guard and a local elder. The gunman is seen wearing a blue shirt and a hood. He shoots the seated frail old man in cold man, typical barbarianism.
The person shooting the video, the person killing the police officer, and probably one or more persons providing instruction, cover, and scouting for the entire group draws out the correct picture of how large the cell is. Perhaps, they have a safe house managed by several other militants.
While the killing of the Somali police officer is not only a stupid and cowardly act, publishing the video has little consequences. After all, the greater Somalia has become lethargic of the constant radical Islamic views.
The ISIS Branch in Somalia primarily operates in the mountainous hinterland region of Puntalnd. In the recent past, the group claimed responsibility for several terrorist attacks in Qandala and Afgoye.
Somali officials have not commented on the gradual growth and audacity of the Abdi Qadir Muumin led terror group. The state intelligence NISA has neither provided a detailed view of the threat posed by the group.
