1st March 2016, Iraqi security forces have launched a military operation intended to eliminate Daesh Takfiri militants in Sammara Island Salahuddin Province.
Iraqi army, anti-terrorism units, federal police and volunteer forces are taking part in a joint operation with air cover against Daesh terrorists’ hideouts in Sammara Island, al-Sumaria television network reported on Monday.
The operation in Sammara Island comes in a wake of recent rise in terrorist attacks which have left more than 100 people killed in Iraqi’s capital Baghdad.
Northern and western parts of Iraq have been faced by militancy challenge since Daesh began waging attacks in June 2014.
Iraqi army soldiers backed by fighters from Popular Mobilization units seeking to win back militant-held regions in joint operations.
