Iraqi security forces have killed a senior Islamic State commander in the country’s northern Salahuddin province.
Islamic State Takfiris also known as ‘Daesh’ have been dislodged in Iraqi and allied forces operations but some regions still harbours the militants.
According to Iraq’s al-Forat news agency, Iraqi forces killed Abu al-Harith al-Libi, a senior IS commander in a military operation conducted in al-Jahleh Village on the outskirts of the city of Shirqat early on Sunday.
During the combat operation, unspecified number of other IS/Daesh terrorists were also killed in the military operation, which was aided by information provided by local residents.
Security forces have recently entered Shirqat to liberate it from Daesh.
The northern and western parts of Iraq have been plagued by gruesome violence ever since Daesh began a campaign of terror in the country in June 2014.
Iraqi army soldiers backed by allied volunteer fighters have been fighting the Islamic State terrorists and have won back several militant-held regions in joint operations.
