Iraqi forces on Tuesday launched offensive to liberate Shirqat district and two other areas in Anbar province from Daesh.
During the operation the army forces backed by allied tribesmen recaptured Haditha Island in western Iraq from the control of Daesh terrorist group.
According to Major General Qassim al-Mohammadi, a military commander, the operation saw forces liberate the Island, some 160 kilometers west of Anbar province.
al-Mohammadi said the military operations will continue until the northern Shirqat district and two other areas in the western Anbar province are liberate from the reign of Daesh terrorist group.
The military commander indicated that Iraqi forces together with allied tribal fighters were advancing in an effort to liberate al-Baghdadi Island from Daesh group.
The military operation also saw Iraqi forces defuse several explosive devices and also destroyed rocket launchers in Haditha Island. Over two dozen militants were killed in the operation al-Mohammadi added.
