February 18, 2016: Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has reported arresting an international criminal syndicate in Moscow of 14 people involved in forging passports, travel documents and other documents for Islamic extremists.
The suspects have been making fake documents for extremists seeking to go to Syria to fight in ISIS and those going to Russia and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) for terror missions. CIS countries include; ten former Soviet Republics: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
The 14 were arrested after a successful joint FSB and Interior Ministry operation in Moscow region that gathered sufficient intelligence that led to the arrests.
Fake passports and other documents were recovered alongside high-tech printing equipment that the gang used to process the documents.
