How Al Shabaab Terrorists Exploit Dadaab Refugee Camp in Kenya

Event Summary:

  • On May 7th and 14th, 2015 the Security Intelligence service of Kenya provided a warning citing 15 and another 25 militants (consecutively / circa dates ) from the Somali terror group Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen crossed the border from Deglema area which is about 12-KMS from Dhobley area into Kenya.
  • Intelligence showed that the 15 heavily armed Al Shabaab militants entered Madaghisi area 10 kilometers from the Dadaab refugee camp.
  • The militants split into single or double cells and disappeared into the Dadaab refugee camp. Intelligence shows they hid their weapons and assumed normal refugee life in the camp.
  • The Government of the Republic of Kenya identifies the Dadaab Refugee camp is a threat to the national security.

The militantsdadaab finalized plans on the Yumbis Police attack from the refugee camp and further deployed the banditry strategy from the refugee camp.

OSINT Analysis

Dadaab refugee camp provides the perfect cover for Al Shabaab elements, particularly their intelligence wing Amniyaat.

Thousands of youths growing up at the camps are yet to find sources of income. They are vulnerable to radicalization. The psychological, economic, religious, and political conditions at the Dadaab refugee camp, situated in Kenya’s North Eastern Province are ideal for terror cells to radicalize besides exploit to indoctrinate the young youths into religious-political terrorism rife in Somalia.

Al Shabaab elements are coordinating terror attacks in Kenya since they hold genuine refugee papers. Secondly, the security system in the area is not apt. This challenge creates gaps easily expolited by Al Shabaab’s Amniyaat sleeper cells.

An estimated 600 Somali youths who have matured inside the refugee camp have joined the Somali terror group Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen.

These youths still have legit refugee identification papers, Its is indeed difficult to convince NGO’s tasked by the UNHCR to provide relief  services that these young men are terrorists.

The terrorists use the political situation in Somalia as an agenda to recruit the Somali youths into political militancy.

On the other hand, vulnerable Muslim youths in Kenya are indoctrinated to radical Islamism through the economic-political-religious discourse.

Al Shabaab brainwash them through lies about economic marginalization, persecution by other religions, and religious extremism, thus inspire the ideology of terrorism in them. However, Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen objective is political and religious power.

Banditry in NEP

The National Intelligence Service of Kenya issued a warning about increase in banditry in the NEP. The service warned against none essential travel to the NEP by foreigners and civilians, besides cautioned Kenyan government officers (including security officers who are also GOK employees), citing them as targets of the Al Shabaab terrorists.

The Yumbis police attack was coordinated and planned from the refugee camp. The Garissa University attack, the failed Village Market mall attack was planned from the camp, some elements of the terror group involved in the Lamu terror attacks were living in the camp, intelligence reports show.

Banditry witnessed in past two weeks in NEP’s Mandera, Wajir, and Garissa Kenya has been coordnated from Dadaab by the Al Shabaab cells who crossed into the country from Somalia.

These reference verifies why the Government of the Republic of Kenya’s identifies Dadaab refugee camp as a threat to the national security.

The camp is exploited by the terror group to recruit besides coordinate attacks in Kenya. The UNHCR Dadaab refugee camp also provides perfect cover for terrorists sleeper cells, radicalize-rs, and recruiters.

Elements of the terror group holding legit refugee papers, and able to conceal weaponry in strategic dumps near the border, enter the camp, besides finding shelter, food, and cover from the refugee camp.

This exploitation by the Somali Islamists group Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen, makes UNHCR Dadaab Refugee Camp a threat to Kenya’s National Security.

Is this an admission that the state is unable to secure it’s borders and police it’s interior? Even worse, why resort to making generalized allegations? It is not intelligence if it not credible and actionable? I think I now believe the police when they say that what they are always given is too general to be acted upon.

Kenyans reserve the right of admission of any refugee or visitor to our country. If you come here and engage in activities that are inconsistent with our laws or injurious to our interests, you must pack and go. Australia, EU, USA and Canada are very rich countries and refuse to admit refugees from war torn muslim countries. Do international treaties only apply to Kenya? Raila and those confused Cordeshians should give us a break.

Kenyans are the first enemy of somalia, and they are empowering alshabaab to root in our country and make justification that alshabab group attacks kenya, the only solution is to withdraw stupid kenyans from somalia and then they will be save from attacks.

It was dared to close it by the Zionists. we all know that Alshabaab is an offshoot of Alqaeda n a brother to ISIS all that were formed, trained n equipp by CIA n Mossad to champion their imperialism in third world countries n use islam as a scape goat
